Cost and ads

What does Brauchma cost?

Nothing. Brauchma is free for everyone, and the shared lists, offline mode and invitations stay free for good. Extra lists cost nothing either. There is no subscription and no paid version; anyone who wants to can support Brauchma voluntarily. More on that in Support Brauchma.

Does Brauchma show ads?

No, in no version. Brauchma shows no ads, no leaflets and no sponsored products, and it has no affiliate links, no analytics and no tracking cookies. How that adds up is in A shopping list without ads.

How can I support Brauchma?

In the app, under Settings → Support Brauchma. Suggested amounts are €12, €24 or €48 a year, and any amount from €1 counts. A contribution is a one-time payment, not a subscription, and it unlocks no features. As a thank-you, Brauchma shows a small heart next to your family's name for a year. Ways to pay and the details are on the support page.

Data and account

What data does Brauchma store, and where?

Brauchma stores what it needs to run your lists: your name, email address and a small copy of your profile picture from Google, your families and your items. The server runs at IONOS in a data centre in the EU. Encrypted backups are kept at Scaleway SAS, and only the operator holds the key to them. Brauchma has no analytics and no tracking cookies and sells no data. Everything in detail is in the privacy policy.

Do I need a Google account?

Yes. Brauchma only offers sign-in with Google, with no password and no registration form. Brauchma never sees your Google password, and it gets no access to your data at Google either. How signing in works is in How it works.

How do I delete my account, and what happens to my data?

Tap "Delete my account" in Settings. Brauchma deletes your account, signs you out on every device and removes you from all your families. Families you own pass to the member who has been there the longest; families where you're the only member are deleted with their lists. Items you added to a family that continues stay there, no longer linked to you. Exactly what is deleted and what stays is in the privacy policy.

Sharing and family

How do I share a shopping list with my family?

Open the family page from the menu, tap "Create link" and send the link through a messenger. Whoever opens it signs in with Google and taps "Join"; that's all the other person needs. From then on you all see the same lists, and every change shows up on every phone right away. For someone without Brauchma, "Share list" in the list's menu sends the open items as text, through WhatsApp for example. Step by step: Share a shopping list with your family.

Can I use Brauchma in a shared flat?

Yes. In Brauchma every group is called a "family", a shared flat included, and you can belong to up to ten families at once. How to set up your flat and what happens when someone moves out is in A shared shopping list for flatmates.

Phone and on the go

Does Brauchma work without internet?

Yes. Brauchma keeps your lists on your phone. Without reception you can add, edit and check off items; a banner counts the changes that are waiting, and they sync as soon as you're back online. What works offline and what doesn't is in A shopping list that works offline.

Can Brauchma sort the list like my supermarket?

Yes. Each list has its own order of the categories. In the list's menu, under "Category order", you set it to your way through the supermarket, by dragging or with the up and down buttons, and it applies to the whole family. If you like, turn on "Learn the order while shopping" there too: from three shopping rounds on, Brauchma then adjusts the order to the way you check things off while shopping. Learning is set for each list on its own and stays off until you turn it on. More in A shopping list sorted by aisle.

Is there Brauchma for iPhone?

Yes, as a web app. Open Brauchma in Safari, tap Share, then "Add to Home Screen"; from there it opens as its own app. On an iPhone, notifications need the app on the home screen and iOS 16.4 or later. The home page shows the steps.

Is there Brauchma for Android?

Yes, as a web app. Open Brauchma in Chrome and tap "Install app" in the app's Settings, or choose "Install app" from Chrome's menu. Samsung Internet cannot install Brauchma yet. Notifications work in Chrome with or without installing. The home page shows the steps.

Access and the project

How do I get access to Brauchma?

You need a Google account and your phone: Chrome on Android, Safari on an iPhone. After your first sign-in Brauchma creates a family with an empty list, and a short tour shows you the essentials.

Brauchma is free and open to everyone. Open the app, sign in with Google and invite your family.

Who is behind Brauchma?

Brauchma is a project by a private person in Austria and runs on voluntary contributions from the families who use it. Name and place are in the disclosure; facts, logo and screenshots for articles are on the press page.
